The National Assembly has called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue Nigerians held captive by armed groups across the country. The call was made on the floor of both the Senate and House of Representatives as they resumed plenary after a 68-day annual recess. Both chambers adjourned plenary until October 13 to allow for ongoing rehabilitation work in their respective chambers. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in a speech titled 'Keeping Faith with Nigeria', referenced recent abductions in Niger State and declared that parliament cannot consider itself free while citizens remain in captivity.
