After 68 days vacation, lawmakers embark on another recess

Members of the National Assembly proceeded on a short break on Tuesday after being on vacation for the past 68 days. The legislature began its 2026 annual recess on Thursday, July 23, 2026, following the conclusion of plenary proceedings, and initially adjourned till September 15 before extending the recess to September 29 due to repairs on sound systems in both chambers. Upon resumption on Tuesday, the lawmakers adjourned till October 13 after extending the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 budget. In the upper chamber, the adjournment followed deliberations on Nigeria's ongoing security challenges, with the Senate confirming that the October 13 resumption date aligns with the conclusion of its upcoming National Security Summit.
