Scott Kirby, the 59-year-old CEO of United Airlines, shared his daily routine in an as-told-to essay. Kirby attended the Air Force Academy but an inner-ear issue prevented him from becoming a fighter pilot, so he worked at the Pentagon and earned a graduate degree in operations research. He later joined a technology subsidiary of American Airlines, moved to America West, and eventually returned to American Airlines before becoming president of United nearly a decade ago and CEO in 2020. Kirby, who is based in Dallas, described himself as the least stressed person and said the industry is never boring.
