Suspected bandits abducted 47 people, mostly women, while they were harvesting groundnuts on farms in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State. The incident occurred on Saturday at Tungan Rimi in Ma’undu-Beri Ward. The Chairman of Mariga Local Government Area, Alhaji Aliyu Bagga Muhamadu, confirmed the abduction and said the victims included mostly women and a few men. He added that one of the abducted women gave birth while in captivity, and the bandits have demanded a ransom of N2 million for each person. Joint security operatives and local vigilantes have moved into the forest to rescue the victims.
