UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reopened the debate on Britain rejoining the European Union, saying his Labour government could propose membership after weighing the pros and cons of different relationships with Europe. Burnham, who became premier in July after Labour MPs replaced Keir Starmer, told his party’s annual conference that Brexit had done more harm than good and triggered a decade of low growth. He promised to set out different options for future ties with the EU. Right-wing rivals immediately criticised the comments, as the UK appeared to be gearing up for a re-run of the bitter Brexit wars that followed the 2016 vote to leave the EU.
