Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), stated that the concerns raised by late Biafran leader Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu about Nigeria remain relevant 66 years after independence. In a statement issued on his behalf by MASSOB's National Director of Information, Mazi Chris Mocha, Uwazuruike criticised the country's political structure and called for restructuring Nigeria into six independent countries. He argued that the 1914 amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates produced an arrangement that continues to affect the country.
