In a message ahead of the 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Jibrin called on Nigerians to reflect on the country's journey since independence and uphold the ideals of unity, peace, justice and development. He congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and paid tribute to the country's founding fathers and others who contributed to the struggle for independence and nation-building. The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1, a public holiday to commemorate the anniversary.
