The federal government has declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary. The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the federal government and congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad. In a statement issued by the Ministry's permanent secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister described Nigeria's human and natural resources as significant assets that contribute to the country's potential for prosperity. Tunji-Ojo stressed the importance of peace and stability to national development and called on Nigerians to emulate the nation's founding fathers by demonstrating patriotism and working towards building a better country for future generations.
