Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has sworn in 17 newly elected local government chairmen and vice chairmen. He charged them to immediately commence work, stating that the local government system is an active partner in the state's development agenda. The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission declared All Progressives Congress candidates winners of all 17 chairmanship and 260 councillorship seats in the election held on Saturday. Mbah emphasized that there would be no honeymoon period and urged the new officials to focus on eradicating poverty.
