The Federal Government has ruled out a return to the petrol subsidy regime, stating that President Bola Tinubu's reforms were necessary to save Nigeria from imminent collapse. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made this declaration at the 66th Independence Anniversary Lecture in Abuja. He said the administration took bold decisions, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and unification of the foreign-exchange market, to rebuild stability. Akume emphasized that the government will not return to what he called the ruinous petroleum subsidy regime of the past.
