The Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Kaduna, Dr Aishatu Armaya'u, has disclosed that about half of the patients receiving treatment at the hospital are cases linked to substance abuse. She made the disclosure on Wednesday at a media engagement and the launch of the hospital's digital innovation initiatives in Kaduna. According to her, the increasing number of patients with substance-related mental health problems has put pressure on the hospital's facilities, particularly its wards. She said acute substance abuse patients were previously kept alongside other mental health patients, a situation that created serious challenges because some patients became aggressive while experiencing cravings for drugs, and some attempted to escape by breaking ceilings and walls.
