Gombe approves N10.3bn to clear retirees’ gratuities

The Gombe State Government has decided to pay N10.32 billion to settle unpaid retirement benefits for former civil servants. This decision was made during a recent meeting led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya. The money will cover various amounts owed to retirees at both state and local government levels. For state retirees, N2.18 billion is allocated for 2024 and N4.06 billion for 2025. Overall, the government has now paid over N36.5 billion in retirement benefits since it took office. Local governments will receive N4.08 billion to clear their own outstanding payments. In addition to the retirement benefits, the government approved N6.1 billion for education improvements, which will help reduce the number of out-of-school children and enhance teaching quality. They also allocated N3.64 billion for road projects and approved the installation of 1,085 solar streetlights in various communities. Other initiatives include a free medical outreach program for low-income residents and the establishment of new military units in Gombe to improve security. Overall, these actions aim to enhance welfare, education, infrastructure, healthcare, and security in the state.
