David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences and its teaching hospital in Uburu, Ebonyi State, have started a two-month program offering free medical services to local residents. The goal of this initiative is to improve healthcare access and help detect and treat common illnesses early. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jesse Uneke, explained that the program will address health issues like malaria and cholera and is open to everyone, regardless of their background. This effort aims to strengthen ties between the hospital and the community, especially for those who struggle to afford healthcare. Prof. Chihurumnanya Alo, the Chief Medical Director, emphasized that the free treatment is available to all residents and encouraged anyone with health concerns to visit the hospital. He highlighted the importance of seeking medical help early to avoid complications and urged the community to adopt healthy practices. Dr. Ugoji Darlington-Peter, from the Medical Advisory Committee, also encouraged people to take advantage of this opportunity for health assessments and to support efforts against common diseases. Residents are invited to participate and access these free healthcare services during the two-month period.
