Wema Bank has launched a program called the Export Trade Academy (WETA) to help Nigerian businesses succeed in international trade. Recently, they held a two-day training in Lagos that trained over 500 business owners on how to effectively export their products. The training covered important topics like finding export opportunities, understanding what international buyers expect, and managing the paperwork and regulations involved in exporting. Experts from various organizations, including the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, led the sessions. Wema Bank's Deputy Managing Director, Oluwole Ajimisinmi, mentioned that many Nigerian businesses have great products but often lack the necessary knowledge and connections to succeed abroad. The goal of WETA is to provide the right tools and support for these businesses to thrive in global markets. Participants found the program helpful for reassessing their businesses and understanding what it takes to enter new markets. Wema Bank plans to continue supporting these businesses even after the training, ensuring they have the resources they need as they grow. Overall, WETA is part of Wema Bank's larger effort to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) develop and compete internationally, not just through financial support but also by building their skills and networks.
