Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially sworn in 17 new local government chairmen, urging them to start working immediately. He emphasized that local governments play a crucial role in the state's development and that the chairmen have a responsibility to fulfill the promises they made during their campaigns. The recent local government elections were won by candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Mbah reminded the chairmen that their election is a social contract with the people, meaning they must be accountable and accessible to their constituents. He highlighted the importance of tackling poverty, especially in rural areas, and called on the chairmen to focus on education, healthcare, sanitation, and agriculture. Mbah insisted that they should aim for measurable improvements, like ensuring all school-age children are enrolled in school. In response, the chairmen expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and committed to good governance, hoping to make a positive impact during their tenure.
