The Western Ports Police have stepped in to resolve a disagreement between two groups: the Committee of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA) and the Lagos State Trucks and Cargo Operators Committee (LASTCOC). The issue was about the proposed sale of tickets for collecting money on the roads leading to the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports, which COMTUA claimed was illegal. To address this dispute, the police held a meeting with representatives from both groups, along with senior police officers and officials from the Nigerian Ports Authority. During the meeting, they agreed to keep the peace and not engage in any activities like ticket sales or revenue collection on these roads. The police made it clear that collecting money and selling tickets on the port access roads is not allowed. Both parties expressed their commitment to maintaining order and ensuring that truck drivers can operate without fear of harassment or illegal ticket collection.
