In his speech for Nigeria's Independence Day, President Bola Tinubu recognized that many Nigerians are facing tough economic challenges. He acknowledged that families are struggling to pay for basic needs like food, school fees, and medical expenses. Tinubu explained that these problems didn't start with his government but have built up over many years due to low productivity and lack of infrastructure. He promised that his administration is focused on improving the economy to help lift people out of poverty. This includes providing direct assistance to the poorest families and enhancing support programs like the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which helps low-income children afford higher education. He also mentioned a consumer credit scheme to help working Nigerians buy essential items. Tinubu emphasized that overcoming poverty will take time and requires consistent economic growth and job creation. He stated that his goal is not just to manage poverty better but to completely eliminate it. He believes Nigeria is now moving into a new phase called "the age of prosperity," where the country's growth will lead to better living conditions for everyone.
