The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPCL) has loaned a total of about 220 billion Naira to its three refineries for maintenance and other expenses. This information comes from their financial report for 2025. The loans were distributed as follows: Kaduna Refining & Petrochemical Company received around 77.6 billion Naira, Port Harcourt Refining Company got about 2.6 billion Naira, and Warri Refining & Petrochemical Company received approximately 113.3 billion Naira. This financial support comes after NNPCL made an agreement with two Chinese companies to help improve the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries. The report also mentioned that the Nigerian government owes NNPCL about 11.2 trillion Naira, which is expected to be a loss in payments due. Additionally, there are ongoing discussions about new agreements with the Chinese companies to help restore the refineries' capacity and efficiency, but the financial effects of these agreements are still being evaluated.
