Awow Daniel Chuang has been named the Caretaker National Minister of Petroleum in South Sudan by President Salva Kiir. This appointment comes as the country prepares for elections in December and aims to boost investment in the oil sector. Chuang has a lot of experience in this field, having held various positions in the Ministry of Petroleum before. His main goals in this new role include improving how the Ministry operates, ensuring better cooperation and regulation, and addressing any administrative issues to enhance oversight of South Sudan's oil and gas sector. Chuang's appointment is timely as South Sudan is set to host the South Sudan Oil & Power (SSOP) event on November 24-25, 2026. This event will focus on energy growth and will bring together government officials, industry leaders, investors, and technology providers to discuss opportunities in the energy sector. Currently, South Sudan has 14 oil blocks available for investment, providing chances for international companies to explore and develop oil resources. The country is also looking for investments to improve existing oil fields and infrastructure. SSOP 2026 will serve as a platform for the Ministry to connect with potential investors and discuss the future of South Sudan's oil industry.
