In a recent speech for Nigeria's Independence Day, President Bola Tinubu highlighted the economic progress the country has made since he took office three and a half years ago. He stated that Nigeria is starting to experience improvements in its economy, with growth exceeding four percent in 2026. This growth is supported by contributions from both oil and non-oil sectors, reduced oil theft, and a significant drop in inflation. Tinubu mentioned that Nigeria has rebuilt its foreign reserves and stabilized the foreign exchange market. In 2025, the country achieved over $6 billion in non-oil exports, marking its highest record. He emphasized that Nigeria has reached a turning point, stating that the emergency measures taken to fix the economy are now over, and the focus will shift towards creating widespread prosperity. The government plans to improve the lives of Nigerians by making food, transportation, and electricity more affordable, creating jobs, and enhancing access to education and finance. Tinubu acknowledged that many Nigerians still face challenges with basic needs but assured that the government is working on social programs while aiming for long-term economic growth. He expressed a commitment to overcoming poverty and declared that Nigeria has entered a new era of prosperity, encouraging citizens to look forward to a brighter future.
