In Niger State, Nigeria, a tragic event occurred where at least eight people, including women and children, lost their lives during a stampede at the Government House in Minna. This incident happened when many people were invited to receive N10,000 (about $12) in financial aid from the government. The crowd became chaotic, leading to the stampede. Witnesses reported that a government official threw bundles of money into the air, which caused the crowd to surge forward. Among the victims were a woman and her two daughters who were trampled. Many others were injured and taken to a nearby health center, but some later died at a general hospital. The police were not initially aware of the situation, and officials from the government could not be reached for comments. This is not the first time such a tragedy has happened at this location; a similar incident occurred in 2023, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.
