Arceus is a new type of law firm created by Mac Liu, who has experience in tech startups but is not a lawyer. The firm combines legal services with technology to make reviewing contracts much faster—what usually takes days or weeks can be done in just a few hours. If a review takes more than eight hours, it's free. Recently, Arceus raised $17 million in funding from investors like Greycroft, Craft Ventures, and South Park Commons. Liu previously sold his software company, Vultron, and is using that money to support Arceus. The way Arceus works is different from traditional law firms. Instead of clients having to log into a new platform, they can submit contracts for review directly through Slack. The firm's technology helps gather information from other systems and suggests changes before a lawyer does a final review. Liu aims to create a startup-like atmosphere at Arceus, hiring engineers before lawyers and ensuring quick responses to customer requests. He believes that in-house legal teams will prefer faster service rather than managing more software tools. Liu sees Arceus competing not just with other law firms but also with in-house legal teams and software companies that help lawyers. He envisions that as Arceus grows, clients may need fewer internal lawyers. Investors are optimistic about this vision, as shown by their willingness to fund the company.
