Dr. Yunusa Tanko has accepted a new job as the Political Adviser for Northern Nigeria to Peter Obi, who is running for president in the upcoming 2027 elections with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Tanko announced his acceptance on social media, expressing his eagerness to help engage and organize political activities in Northern Nigeria to support Obi's campaign. Previously, Tanko was the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, which aimed to create a "New Nigeria." He reflected on his time in that role, noting that the movement made significant progress, including establishing a National Advisory Council and expanding its presence across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. They also created a digital platform for mobilization and a system to monitor election results. As he takes on this new role, Tanko has appointed Dr. Moses Paul, known as Dr. Mo, to succeed him as the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement. Tanko believes Dr. Mo is well-suited for the position and encouraged everyone in the movement to support him. He thanked Obi for trusting him with this new role and acknowledged the contributions of many others in the movement over the last two years.
