Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has announced a plan to spend N2.5 billion to help people in need and support community recovery. This funding will focus on social relief, youth empowerment, and rebuilding areas affected by conflicts. As part of Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations, Kefas also pardoned 24 inmates who have shown good behavior. He explained that N500 million will be used for a program to assist low-income families, widows, people with disabilities, and the elderly over the next six months. Additionally, N1 billion will go to youth programs for vocational training and business support, and another N1 billion will help communities recover from crises, particularly in the Karim Lamido area. Kefas emphasized the importance of these initiatives in improving the lives of vulnerable residents and creating better opportunities for youth. He also called for accountability in how the funds are used. Furthermore, he addressed the issue of a collapsed bridge on a major highway, urging officials to provide a clear timeline for its repair, as it has caused significant difficulties for travelers. The governor welcomed scrutiny of the state’s finances but insisted that borrowing can be responsible if managed properly. He also highlighted a recent legal victory that supports a major power project in the state while encouraging local investment in energy solutions. Other future plans include improving teacher welfare, launching a development program, and addressing issues related to artisanal mining at an upcoming summit.
