The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) has started building six new offices for the Beni Military Tribunal in North Kivu Province. This project, which costs about $49,389, aims to improve the military justice system and will take three months to complete. The Beni Military Tribunal has needed more workspace for a long time because there is a high demand for justice. MONUSCO's Justice Support Section Chief, Catherine-Anne Moore, emphasized that this project is important for making justice more effective and accessible for the local population. The new offices will help military judges work better, protect victims, and reduce impunity. Colonel Guy Nyembo, the President of the Beni Military Tribunal, expressed his happiness about the project, saying it will improve conditions for both those seeking justice and the judicial staff. The project is also expected to boost the local economy by providing temporary jobs for young people in the area. The ceremony for starting the construction was held respectfully, as it followed the tragic death of senior military justice officials in a plane crash. A moment of silence was observed in their honor.
