The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has made a statement on Nigeria's 66th Independence Day, urging the government to ensure that economic growth benefits everyday citizens. They emphasized that true prosperity means families can afford basic needs like food, transportation, and energy, and that young people can find good jobs in safe communities. CAN welcomed the government's focus on prosperity but pointed out that it should be reflected in people's daily lives, not just in economic statistics. They called for lower prices for food and transport, better support for vulnerable families, improved education and healthcare, and affordable loans, all managed transparently to prevent misuse of funds. Additionally, CAN stressed the importance of security, saying that real prosperity can't exist if people are afraid to farm, trade, or travel. They also warned politicians not to use Christianity for political gain and affirmed their role as a moral voice, committed to justice and accountability.
