The police in Ebonyi State have arrested people involved in a child-trafficking ring and rescued three children who were taken from their families. The investigation started after a woman reported that her two children were kidnapped by people pretending to be interested in marrying her. The police found that two social welfare workers helped the kidnappers by giving the children to people who wanted to adopt them. During the investigation, several suspects were arrested, including individuals who had deceived a mother into believing she was going to get a job, only to take her child away. The police also discovered that one of the suspects had tried to abduct another child, which led to more arrests. They found a child that had been sold for a large sum of money and were working to recover more children who had been taken. The police chief praised the officers for their hard work and urged people looking to adopt or foster children to be careful and to use official government channels instead of relying on unofficial arrangements.
