In a recent statement, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, criticized the current government, calling Nigeria "the worst place to be born." He made this remark during Nigeria's 66th Independence Day celebration, highlighting serious issues like poverty, insecurity, unemployment, and hunger. Obi pointed out that Nigeria has over 140 million people living in poverty and around 80 million children who are not in school. He expressed concern about the high levels of violence, including banditry and kidnapping, which make the country unsafe. He also mentioned the tragic loss of 37 young people recently and noted that Nigeria is facing severe hunger, with predictions that 40 million people might experience extreme hunger by the end of the year. He emphasized that the youth unemployment rate is very high, with over 35 million young people without jobs, and that drug use is also a major problem in the country. Obi's comments contrast sharply with President Bola Tinubu's Independence Day address, where Tinubu claimed that Nigeria is moving towards a brighter future and economic prosperity. Overall, Obi's message paints a grim picture of the current state of Nigeria, especially for the younger generation.
