In a recent speech, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, emphasized that Nigeria's main issue is not a lack of resources but poor leadership that fails to use the country's wealth to improve the lives of its citizens. He pointed out that over 140 million Nigerians live in poverty, and 18 million children are out of school, despite Nigeria having many natural and human resources. Obi highlighted serious problems such as insecurity, unemployment, and inadequate healthcare, which affect many Nigerians. He believes that the country needs to reflect on its progress since gaining independence and consider where it is headed. He criticized the current government for not fulfilling its promises and stressed the urgent need to address these challenges. Obi shared his experiences from a recent visit to Sokoto State, where he saw the difficult conditions faced by displaced people, especially women and children. He argued that political leaders have let the country down and must change their approach. Despite the challenges, Obi remains hopeful and believes that a better Nigeria is achievable. He promised that if elected, he would focus on making governance accountable and improving security, education, and the economy. He wants to create jobs and opportunities while ensuring that resources are used for the public good. Obi also expressed his commitment to understanding the struggles of Nigerians by spending his presidential holidays in various states, aiming to connect with citizens and listen to their concerns. He called for a collective effort to build a productive and united Nigeria, emphasizing that change requires responsible leadership and active citizen engagement.
