Liberia is set to start a new licensing round for offshore oil exploration in the last part of 2026. This announcement was made by the Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority (LPRA) during an investor event in Houston. The licensing round aims to attract companies interested in exploring oil in Liberia's waters. The LPRA explained that they are looking for both experienced companies and new investors who need time to gather information and assess the opportunities. The process is based on laws from 2014 and 2019 that govern oil exploration in Liberia. Last year, Liberia awarded contracts for eight offshore oil projects, bringing in significant revenue. Companies like TotalEnergies and Oranto Petroleum are already working on various projects. Liberia is eager to attract serious investors to develop its oil sector and is focusing on building long-term partnerships. During the event, data about the oil potential in Liberia's basins was shared, highlighting the opportunities for exploration. The official launch of the licensing round will take place at the African Energy Week on October 14, 2026.
