The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nigeria is calling for a major change in how the country is governed, especially as Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary. They believe it's time to stop just making promises and slogans about improving life for citizens and start taking real action to tackle issues like poverty, insecurity, and poor infrastructure. In a statement, the SDP pointed out that while Nigeria has many resources, it hasn't turned these into benefits for all its people. They want the government to focus on building a stronger economy, ensuring fair access to resources, improving food security, and supporting local jobs. The party criticized the current government's claims of economic recovery, stating that these claims do not match the everyday realities faced by citizens. They are advocating for practical steps to reduce poverty, reform the legal system, improve financial transparency, and invest more in infrastructure. The SDP wants to shift from a system that relies on temporary solutions, like providing food and cash handouts, to one that encourages local production and supports businesses, agriculture, and transport. They believe that investments in these areas can create lasting improvements for young people and rural communities. As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general election, the SDP is promoting their candidates, Prince Adewole Adebayo and Dr. Usman Bugaje, as leaders who can bring real change. They encourage Nigerians to reflect on their country's potential and work together to improve living conditions for everyone.
