Tesla has released an over-the-air software update called "Emergency Drive Away" that allows its vehicles to shift into drive while still connected to a Supercharger, a function typically prevented by the car's software. The feature was introduced two months after a shooting at a Tesla charging station in Twin Falls, Idaho, left three people dead, including Dale Schultz, who was inside a Tesla with his wife. Tesla stated that the feature is intended for emergency use only and warned that it will damage both the vehicle and the Supercharger. One Tesla employee described it as "a feature we hope you never need."
