Nigerian airlines may reduce flight operations to only profitable routes as the price of aviation fuel, Jet A1, has remained high since February. Operators also complain that oil marketing companies are failing to deliver the product to many airports, including major ones, causing scarcity. To cope, some airlines leave passengers' luggage behind to carry more fuel to airports where they cannot refuel, and are required to carry fuel for the return flight plus endurance fuel for emergencies. Airlines told THISDAY they are incurring losses, with inadequate supply contributing to flight delays.
