Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other prominent Nigerians have criticized President Bola Tinubu's Independence Day speech, saying it failed to address the hunger and hardship facing Nigerians. Atiku described the speech as full of promises, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) said it showed Nigeria has a leadership problem and that Nigerians did not miss the President's absence. Other reactions included the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) urging the Federal Government to tackle insecurity, and former presidential aide Dele Momodu comparing the Tinubu administration to a doctor who moved patients to stage 4 cancer. The United States government, however, hailed Nigeria on its 66th independence anniversary.
