Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 37-year-old man, identified as Chima John, for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman in Igueben, Igueben Local Government Area of the state. Parading the suspect in Benin City, the State Police Commissioner, Patrick Daaor, said the suspect broke into the victim's house at about 1am on September 19, 2026, and allegedly raped her while she was sleeping. The victim sustained bruises while struggling with the suspect, who allegedly overpowered her. Daaor said the case was being thoroughly investigated and that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon conclusion of the investigation, while the suspect blamed the devil and begged for forgiveness.
