The Ogun State Muslim Council installed Hajia Lateefat 'Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo as its Grand Matron for the Egba Zone on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Ake Palace in Abeokuta. Sowunmi-Kolapo, who serves as the Iya Sunnah of Egbaland and Ameerah of Ogun State, is also the Peoples Democratic Party's deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election. The ceremony, attended by Muslim leaders, political stakeholders, and traditional figures, was held under the theme 'Socio-Economic Stability: A Fortress for Global Security.' In her remarks, Sowunmi-Kolapo called for increased civic participation among Muslims and urged voters to reject electoral violence, vote-buying, and political apathy.
