Global life expectancy rises to 73 yrs, nearing pre-Covid level — WHO

Global life expectancy reached 73.3 years in 2023, close to the 73.4 years recorded in 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the World Health Organization's annual Global Health Estimates report. The coronavirus crisis had plunged global life expectancy to 71.5 years in 2021. Healthy life expectancy recovered more slowly, standing at 62.8 years in 2023, which is 0.4 years below the 2019 level. The WHO noted that dementia deaths have tripled and anxiety- and depression-related conditions have increased.
