Addis Ababa cited Eritrea's "direct and indirect acts of hostility and belligerence" as the reason, declaring the diplomats persona non grata and giving them 48 hours to leave. Eritrea subsequently announced it was cutting all diplomatic ties, saying it had no option but to reciprocate.
