The Portfolio Committee on Land Reform and Rural Development received a briefing from the Minister and the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development about the department's failure to submit its Annual Financial Statements to the Office of the Auditor-General of South Africa. The committee chairperson, Mr Albert Mncwango, noted that the committee called an urgent meeting because it was concerned about the department's failure to meet the deadline set by the Public Finance Management Act. Mncwango stated that the failure is not an administrative oversight but a serious failure of governance and accountability. According to the PFMA, annual financial statements must be submitted to the Auditor-General and the relevant Treasury within two months of the end of the financial year.
