A new World Bank Group report, the Tanzania Economic Update, projects Tanzania's economy to grow by 6.1% in 2026 and average 6.5% over the medium term, driven by increased private sector activity. The report notes that inflation remains within the Bank of Tanzania's target range, public debt is sustainable, and private sector credit growth is strong. However, it emphasizes that expanding access to more productive, better-paying, and secure jobs is critical for meaningful poverty reduction and improved living standards. The special theme of this edition, 'Making Jobs Work,' finds that Tanzania does not face a shortage of jobs, but rather a need to improve job quality.
