The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, has stated that nobody should be forced to embrace Islam. Speaking at the NSCIA General Assembly at the National Mosque in Abuja, he emphasized that conversion must be based on free will, citing the Islamic principle that there is no compulsion in religion. The Sultan's remarks come amid concerns over religious intolerance and tensions between different faiths in Nigeria. He has also recently called for mutual respect between Christians and Muslims to promote peaceful coexistence.
