Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed Bayelsa State's enduring gratitude to the late General Sani Abacha for creating the state in 1996. Speaking at the 30th anniversary celebration and award ceremony in Yenagoa, Jonathan dedicated his award to his late political mentor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. He acknowledged that while the state has not reached its full potential, it has made significant progress since its creation. Jonathan noted that many young people question what there is to celebrate, but he remains happy with the state's achievements.
