The European Union is providing €150,000 in humanitarian aid to Lesotho in response to forecasts of below-normal rainfall from October to December 2026. The funding aims to help vulnerable families prepare for potential drought impacts linked to a strong El Niño event expected to peak between late 2026 and early 2027. The six-month project, running through March 2027, will support the Lesotho Red Cross Society in delivering anticipatory actions. These include disseminating early warning messages through public gatherings, community structures, radio, and social media, as well as providing multipurpose cash assistance to vulnerable families in two priority districts.
