The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has raised alarm over alleged ransom demands of up to ₦50 million for abducted prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. The students were abducted while travelling from Ibadan to their orientation camps. NANS also called on the Federal Government to review compulsory long-distance postings and introduce safer deployment and transportation arrangements. The demand follows an attack on two buses conveying prospective corps members along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State, where 10 victims were rescued.
