Lagos, Kwara, Ekiti, Plateau, and Enugu states have taken steps to reduce transportation costs by deploying or expanding the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) and government-subsidised buses. This follows a federal government directive for Nigerians to experience measurable reductions in transport fares starting October 1. While Kwara, Ekiti, Plateau, and Enugu have commenced or expanded subsidised bus services, Lagos has received additional CNG buses but has not yet announced a new fare-reduction scheme under the National Affordable CNG Transit Programme. The response across states has been uneven due to differences in infrastructure, fleet availability, conversion costs, and operating challenges.
