The Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, launched the African Swine Fever (ASF) control and biosecurity campaign at the Oke-Aro Pig Farm Estate, distributing protective and disease-control materials to farmers. The campaign, initiated by the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), aims to control ASF in Nigeria. The minister presented biosecurity kits to many farmers in the area. L-PRES said the intervention is particularly important to Oke-Aro due to the large concentration of pig farmers and pigs within the settlement. National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Dr Sanusi Abubakar, said the intervention would go beyond the distribution of materials, with plans to train pig farmers on essential biosecurity measures and good farm practices to prevent and control diseases.
