At almost 38, the author took her first solo trip for a work conference in Dover, Delaware, in September. She added two days at the end for solo travel. Despite initial anxiety about leaving her husband and three kids, she found the experience made her more responsible and she relished the time to herself. After years of planning family trips, following only her own interests felt freeing.
