New York Governor Kathy Hochul has pledged to close a legal loophole that complicates rape prosecutions when victims were voluntarily intoxicated. This follows a civil lawsuit over an alleged 2024 gang rape at Cornell University involving seven Chi Phi fraternity members. The case was reopened on Monday, and Attorney General Letitia James was appointed as a special prosecutor. Hochul emphasized that voluntary intoxication should not be a defense for sexual assault.
