The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have warned that irresponsible social media use and misinformation are worsening insecurity in Nigeria. They spoke during a nationwide roadshow in Abuja ahead of the 2026 World Public Relations Forum. The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, noted that circulating unverified content can trigger panic and attacks on innocent citizens. The sensitisation aimed to encourage responsible communication and verification of information before sharing.
