Sam Altman: Don't treat AI like a 'religious force'

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on Saturday that he is "very uncomfortable" with people treating AI like a god. In a post on X, Altman said that people who try to "ascribe religious force or a surrender of human judgment to AI models" are a safety issue. He did not explain what prompted his declaration. His statement comes days after a discourse-stirring article in The New York Times about rival Anthropic's meeting with religious leaders.
